Why the Black Feather Falls

Goal: Create a patchwork of stories that build a consistent world, with consistent canon and ideas, while still having each story be its own whole idea.

What I did: I created a new world from scratch. Taking what works from a variety of media and creating a new story of connected characters and storylines.

Results: 119 pages and counting of a world of my design. Creating character arcs, world development, and much more in a format where you should be able to pick up any one short story and get a complete story.

Background: “Why The Black Feathers Falls” is an anthology of my own creation nearing its finale. When it is done, it will be a collection of 25 unique short stories all set in the same universe, with each entry pulling the camera back just a little bit more. Revealing a new patch in this world I am designing from the ground up. If you wish to explore my universe, where things are so similar yet so different, you can find it below.

Bonus: The first story in this anthology is named “A Chip In The Mask”. Not only do I find this a great start to this universe, but it’s also an award-winning short story that is already published in the “Fantastic Worlds” anthology by Something Or Other Publishing. This piece won the Curator’s Choice award in the fantasy category and got third place overall for best short story.

Curse Of the Bloodmoon

Goal: Create an RPG game to learn the aspects of game design and implementation while showing off my creativity to design worlds and characters.

What I did: script wrote, designed character webs and move sets, conceptualized areas and plot points, level designed on grid paper.

Next steps: The engine is licensed, outlines are made, now its time to string the ideas into a cohesive product.

Background: My dream Job for a very long time has been to develop my own video game. This is mainly due to what video games are to me. Video games are an artform unlike any other. Its a combination of many talents and facets that can create joy in a way no other medium can. Sure a picture or a book can create endless opportunities for imagination, but only a video game can truly bring you there and let you experience it first hand. This is my first true attempt to capture that magic. Inspired by games such as Final Fantasy, Earthbound, Vampire the Masquerade, and the Batman Arkham series I weave a tale of a vigilante hero in a world of dark magic and curses, hoping to bring light to a dark city.

“Fallout 85”

Goal: Outline and design as many concepts of a Fallout game as possible (world building, character design, Story Boarding, technical mechanics, Ect)

What I did: created a new wasteland, outlined the plot, designed new characters, analyzing the critiques of every fallout game and attempted to implement solutions of player grievances into this new world.

Next steps: Organizing the ideas to make them flow better as a singular unit, not just a collection of disconnected ideas.

Background: My favorite game series of all time is “Fallout”. This is the game series that truly got me interested in game development. As a way to say thank you I challenged myself to conceptualize everything I can about a Fallout game. From the stories, to major locations, to side quests, to companions. I want to, as Todd Howard said “Sweat every pixel”. I believe I have been doing a good job (barring my horrendous map drawing skills).
